Queen Palm Tree Diseases

Important Nutrient Warning

Queen Palms rely almost entirely on manganese — and a small amount of boron — for their immune system. Arizona soil contains no natural manganese, and regular palm spikes do not provide enough. This is why many Queen Palms decline even when people think they are fertilizing correctly.

Chemical Burns in Trees

Chemical burns occur when excess ions around the roots reverse the root membrane, forcing water out of the tree. This leads to leaf burn, wilting, and decline.

Common Causes

• Toxic substances in the soil
• Tool or paint-cleaner runoff
• Drain cleaners (Drano)
• Gas leaks
• Insecticide spills
• Pool salt or chlorine
• Excess fertilizer
• Contaminated fill dirt

Treatment

Flood the tree heavily for two weeks to push the chemical deeper into the soil. New buds often appear within 1–2 weeks. Severe cases may require direct trunk injections to bypass damaged roots and boost the tree’s immune system.

After watering for two weeks, leave the tree alone for a year. If leaf problems return, have the tree re‑evaluated.
